THE BEST IN FEMALE INDIE ARTISTS

Show at the Cat Club in Hollywood, March, 2002
MEAN STREET Magazine
(calling from the funhouse) by Ron Garmon

DOUBLE-X CHROMOSOME JAM

Though it's infrequently staged and The Cat Club is only slightly bigger than Andre the Giant's Coffin, FemJam is undeniable value for your reeking five bucks. Guitar wizard Shredmistress Rynata is your genial hostess, and she dedicates the ongoing event "to the advancement of female musicians in order to create a viable female rock scene."

Any female performer or band with even a single female member is eligible to participate, and more than one guy walked in off Sunset to play.

One such was C.C. Deville of POISON, who gladly subordinated himself on bass to Rynata's guitar. The five-hour program was divided between sets by the likes of Danielle Lo Presti and the Masses, Lisa Johnson, Roberta Donnay and Danielle Egnew (of Pope Jane) and several electric-blues jams. It's as much fun as you can have without John Ashcroft showing up, so keep scanning FemMuse.com for updates on further shows.
